At Canine Corrections, Paul Dunmore a leading dog behaviourist believes the vast majority of dogs with problems can be become well adjusted canines. By applying a regime of discipline, exercise before giving affection, and establishing rules and boundaries unwanted behaviour can be eliminated. The method is simple and effective, teaching the owner how to understand the language and rules of a pack will enable them to communicate with their dog.

Pack Mentality

Your dog is essentially a pack animal. In the pack there are only two positions the leader and the followers. The whole pack is led by the alpha dog or pack leader. The pack leader makes all the desicions for the survival of the pack. Their rules are follwed without question, disobedience will be dealt with in a calm but assertive manner. Pack leaders are never aggressive or unstable. Dogs will never follow an unstable leader. They have a non-verbal way of communication in the form of body language and energy. A strong pack leader gives the pack a sense of security and takes this role seriously. When a dog is brought in to your family you become a pack, if you do not take the role of pack leader he will have no option but to assume that position. In our human world this beocomes very stressful for them and can result in behavioural problems for all types. By meeting your dog's expectations you will prove to him that you are a worthy packleader and they will assume the follower position.
